This is a concept that I have decided to add to this kind of software but obviously there are different kinds of applications of software. We are going to deal with the main elements of this kind of software and different types. These types have been so I don't know if you have seen this book in the bibliography but this book tells you everything about libraries and software to manage your references etc. It is written in Spanish. These authors have publications as well in Spanish. In many journals and it is very interesting to have a look. Sorry because I still have my voice very good. This is why I'm trying to speak in a loud voice. I'm so sorry. Can you hear me? Okay then we are going to discuss more or less how to work with Redwood. And then we are going to deal with how to work with Sotero. Lucia Borreguero, who is one of our inter-campus teachers, did a very brief tutorial about how to use Sotero but I have tried to add here some of the most important screenshots so that you can have an idea of how Sotero is working. Okay, and remember this is very important in order to make記ages available and to be able to cite it in a good way your . Okay, remember you have to manage a good bibliography, a complete and after that you must be able to present this in a bibliographic standard. Okay, and these standards are not published just on generating a good bibliography. but also you have to format your work in a standard way. You cannot add colors to the forms of your Trabajo Pindegrada, you cannot add images by ornamenting your work, you cannot change the size of the letters because you see it more nicer. So you have to respect a kind of rules or guidelines to write these kinds of academic works. We have lots of bibliographic management applications, but most of them share basic elements, basic features. Okay, they are able to import new data automatically. Remember, you don't have to copy and paste new bibliographic references. You can manage your data. Yes, you can access later because everything is being recorded and you can see it as well in your mobile phone. Okay, sorry. Yes. You can go and then download everything. If you go to the recorded session, uploaded to the course, you can see it in streaming I think. And then there is another option to download the whole MP3 I think or MP4. everything to your mobile and listen later okay I will put it in there okay then in order to in order to cut out your data you can create folders for example imagine that we have just created a folder for you need for applications three whatever okay or whatever or if you are collecting resources from some subject or whatever okay then after that you can select a folder and create a graphic with just this folder or you can start from your computer and in the quotations in the text and after that you can generate the people you have to taking it into account all the citation all the citations that will happen in that text that way it is easier to first to cite and then not to forget anything that you have mentioned there it is very easy to use because one of the most difficult things when we are writing an academic article for the first time is that if you need to cite sometimes you can lose the topic you can't forget okay I'm going to cite this author you go to you read the article or the book or the chapter book and then when you have to come back to the to write again you can forget what we were going to tell so this way is much more easier to do it and more efficient for you okay you can find this this future as well these authors they mentioned three kinds of bibliographic management tools preference manager which is one of the most highly authored with EndNote and Prosoubt these were launched by Johnson Reuters and who is a very famous production of academic products and in the best versions all of these programs had to be installed in your computer. They were like very difficult to use and not very intuitive, not very friendly, okay? EndNote and all of them were proprietary licensed, so you have to pay for all of them in order to use them. EndNote is one of the most famous ones and has a web-based version that is partially free and you can try it. It is one of the most widespread among academic products. It is okay, but if you can choose, I would choose Redfrogs because our library is already paying for that. I prefer it because it is more, I don't know, obviously you can choose after you have tried some of them. That is why I prefer to offer one variety of them and you choose, okay? There are others web-based like this. The good thing about working in the web is that you can access from anywhere. Remember that we have a group code. Imagine that you want to... Let's say you go to do some research to the University of Valencia and you have come across a journal that you don't have in the place where you live. Then you can import the citation reference because one thing is the citation reference and another thing is the whole article. Sometimes you could have the citation reference, but you don't have the full text out there. And that is what we are trying to do when we do research in other libraries. Okay, you go there, you can put it into your pen drive, and then you can attach that full text article to your citation reference. In that way, once you are at home, you can read it in the same way as you would be there. You won't... Okay. You won't lose that resource. And in the case of Redbox, for example, you can go on using your Redbox ID even though you have finished your studies at UNED, and this is very important. You won't lose your ID, okay? Because I have been talking about this with librarians, and they told me that you won't lose it. You will have... You have an unlimited space to put all of these attachments, obviously. You could ask for more if you need it. They can give you more if they consider it is necessary. But that's all, okay? Thoughtator is an open source. You have a web version and downloadable version. And you have the possibility to work with groups as well, in the same way as manual. The good thing about working with groups is that if you are working or doing research in collaboration with other people, you don't have to... It is very easy to share information and to annotate each entry that you have. As you know, Redbox has... I'm sorry. It has a similar thing called Redshare. With Redshare, you can share with even Facebook or Twitter accounts if you need it. But it is perhaps not so easy to share things. You can, but the process is a little bit more complicated than using it with Mendeley or Thoughtator. Okay? Mendeley is patching-free because it is a... Okay. It's a software, but you have to pay if you want to upgrade to other privileges. But the basic account is rather good and it is... The only limit that I have with Thoughtator is that if you have been adding attachments, there is a limit for value of attachments. If you want to add more attachments, you have to pay. But... Normally, you will find a good one. Try to select the newest one because it will be dealt with the newest version. Okay? That is how I used to learn on my own. Normally, these pages have their own tutorials. But if you are looking for the most complete art, those coming from the product, the website itself, nor are they created by an external library or another person. Right? Then, here you can see the other two social networking links. I don't know any of them in detail. But I know you can find lots of Sightly Live direct access in different databases that you may find in the library. So, Sightly Live would be another good option because you can find compatible resources with it. Again, you have to think about that. Always, the direct import is much more easier to use. I will show you why. I think that you have already discovered, but I will see it later with different kinds of importation. I ran into this part and I finished here talking about this in general. This is where you can go to the list of databases and take into account that you have a final column where you have to provide information about what kind of bibliographic management applications you can use with any of the different databases. Obviously, if you are using the Sightly Live site, you will have to make sure that we use indirect way of exporting or importing things you can work with all of them because all of them are able to import into big text or reach txt etc but only some of them are able to export directly to Redbox for example or EndNote and this is a good thing to decide on which database to use or whether nowadays with Linfeo everything is much easier to do because you can begin using Linfeo and forget about the rest of the databases when you are doing the first search but it is important that you have into account that there are many different databases and it is important to know which databases is going to help you in each subject or not okay so have a look at this document created last year with the students from last academic year and try to enrich this chart with your with your add-ins okay or any special future that picture that you can see in any of the databases or or whatever it is very useful because if you are going to begin to do some research if you have a look at the list you can know from the beginning which database database is going to be more useful to you to work okay then you have found four different activities in this unit the first one was dealing with UNE second one was related to other databases found in other libraries and libraries work in very different ways and most times you can access to database without the full text article it is a good way to do some research but in other cases you cannot do that it is a good a good way to obtain information for example if you are going to study a very special topic and you know that there are some scientists working on that special topic for example in the University of Berkeley or the University of Harvard or the MIT wherever you can go to the catalogue of that library and remember that you can access directly from records I will tell you how and it is much easier to go to that library to have what they have because you will have more information about the different find a lot of information about a special topic, a very, very special topic that you won't find in any other database. You will find everything together and in the catalog, in the library catalog, you can find many kinds of resources. You can find in the same search books, e-journals, reports, etc. Then, do you have any doubt from this unique report moving to the different tutorials? Okay, I remember that there were another activity. Well, this one you have found a glossary included in the wiki as well and it is a good way to revise the glossary and see if you need to add any term because in order to create self evaluations and exams I am taking some of these terms in consideration to build some of the multiple choice questions. So if you revise all of them and add tags with the units, ... it will be easier for you to revise all of these concepts by the end of the course. I have been adding unit 1, 2, unit 1, 2, but I think that some concepts are missing. Try to add more concepts, more entries in this glossary and so on. And sometimes if somebody has not added the entry in the right way... You can find some mistakes in the output. So, always it is easier to import things from databases. If they are whatever. Just leave this if you are seeking for a very specific topic that is in some special library of the world. Imagine that with this... In this way you can have a look at the... Catalogue from New Zealand or Hawaii or whatever. So, this is something really interesting but for some special topics. Then you can add data coming from the RSS. For example, imagine that you are following a publication dealing with social linguistic. Then you are the RSS of that special publication. And you don't have to go to the publication to see it. It is something that has been published. Just click on the RSS that you have previously saved into your list of RSS records. And you will see the last issues or the last article published in that journal. This is not... Again, this is not a very orthodox way of importing... Data because sometimes you may find some mistakes. But obviously, if you are trying to do something very quickly. This is a good way to do it. Then... Catalogue Online Researching. Once you have all the information in your records. You can delete it. It duplicates. You can mark it as favorite. You can add tags. You can create folders. You can add other users, commentaries, etc. With records, I think that you have... You can do annotations as you have problems with RSS. Yes, but that's normal. Sometimes it is not working fine with all of the journals. And I have the same problem as you. Just try and if you know that one is working fine, leave it. If not, forget it. Because it is not worthwhile. Then... Once you have all the... All your entries. For example, I have more than 5,000 entries in my database. You can do searches. Attending to the author. Well, not... The folder. Publication. And even you can select... Your publication. Or whatever. You can do a lot of different searches. It is a good way to locate one special author if you are... If you need that author in that moment. Then... Okay, this is what I was telling you. By the way... The way of creating a bibliography has changed in this year. Now all you have to do to create a bibliography is... To go to Organizar y Compartir Carpetas. Select the folder that you want to create a bibliography from that. For example, I don't know. This one. Click with the right button of your mouse. And you will find... Crear Bibliografía. This. And you can select... HMTL or... Or as a document or... You can ask to be... Emailed to your account. Or whatever. This is the way where... You can... Then... Pro, don't worry. It doesn't matter. This is not really useful as other features. Then... A way to add attachments is by downloading the PDF to your... To your PC. I recommend you to create different folders for different journals. And then you can... Add it there. So that one... Once you do access to that reference, you can see the attachment in that exact place. I don't recommend you to add attachments every time you find an article because that is very time consuming. Just if you need it. Or... Yes, if you are going to access for... A mobile device and you know that you are going to read it in that moment. If not, don't worry about that. Or if you are going to do some research on... To other library outside your country or outside your city. It is a good way to save journals or articles that you don't have in your library. Keep space just for that. Don't try to add all the attachments because it is not very worthwhile. Then... After doing all of this, you can put the references or the reference into special folder. As you can see here. And... You can select here the format. The bibliographic format. Oh, you are there. And it is... But... Okay. These are the other public applications. This is RefShare that I was telling you at the beginning. Then once you have decided to share a folder, you will see here different things. This is the link that you have to use to... To give to other users in order to access to your folder. Then you have to add an article... A title to that folder even though you have your own folder in your database. And then... You can go on selecting or ignoring some of the elements here. Okay. And... Obviously, you can stop the sharing at any time if you want on that side. Yes. Have a look at this and do everything you find here. The link that you find by the end of the units is this link. Then you will click on that link. And... You will see my folder. This is right on the side. And... WebBots 2 is updating versions very frequently. You may find different... Right on the side every time Microsoft Word has a new version because they are solving... A few bugs all the time. Okay. And... You can use it as well for... Format. Read all the instructions and... That's it. This is Rabbit. This is to capture information from websites with ISBN. And... It works fine with Amazon. And... Google... Books and Times. And... The Library of Congress. The good things... I used to use Rabbit, for example, when I'm trying to locate a real new publication or book on some special topic. Then... Since it's difficult to find it in a library, I used to go to Amazon directly and I can find things even that are pressing in the press in the right moment. And it is a good way to retrieve really new references. And... That way you can use the Rabbit so that you don't have to... To type the reference from scratch. That is time consuming as well. Then, this is RevMobile. RevMobile has limitations... It is just to consult. To read things, but not to add new references. You can add some notes. You can search on the database that you have, but you can not add new things. At least... then and you can use it offline as well and it is a good way for example if you are reading something example if you are reading a book or and if you want to take notes and you want to forget about the computer for for some time you want to be relaxed reading on that so you can text your own notes there it is like when you had to go when you went to the library and you take some notes in a in a car which is similar it is a way to to read and just annotate the most important things not you know they're not to read the whole article again and again you can copy and paste quotes as well that is easier for you when when you have to write your work essentially if you want more information and you will you will find more records and they used to organize some webinars most of them are in English but there are some in Spanish and you can attend them freely you you can you visit a webinar similar to the space and I imagine that you can record what they recorded session as well so then the library sometimes organizes some some events to be trained on the latest topics about this this matters okay then after finishing with a record if you have any doubt from records obviously records it is a huge tool to use in the beginning try to be organized and try to make some effort to put each um thing in the right folder and everything which will be much easier for you when you have to write this is very useful as well if you are thinking about going on your studies or writing a thesis or um involving a master or something like that because you have beginning to to work with these two and you can go on enriching your own database you don't have to begin from scratch every time you have to write something that we have to begin with a subject this is a gradual work that you will see the reward at the end of having work day by day but obviously you you are not going to see all the advantages from the very beginning I have been using this tool for about six or seven years uh now I cannot live without it I cannot live without it but um if you feel more comfortable copy and pasting um references it is up to you I'm not going to apply anybody to use it okay so they don't this little tutorial has been developed by a lot from La Coruña and I have tried to adapt in some of the slides here so Zotero is very similar to reports because us in the same way as the other bibliographic management applications they share basic features you can collect organized um in this case collaborating is easier than with um with records because Zotero has been thought to collaborate and to share uh references and that is not the main feature of records or endnote for example so if you are thinking about creating a group of work and share um share references potato would be a good option okay you can do anything not on PDA but images video video files etc okay uh obviously if you are going to attach something and it is it is the same to to upload images PDA for audio I haven't tried to to to upload an audio file to that works but I could imagine you can do it yes for example if you are working with uh records you can save a whole well you can export a whole um poetry to deep text text I think it is not good it text um Then you can import it into Zotero, and it is easy, it is just a click. I will show you later, but you can copy and paste as well, you don't have to save it into a file. This is the interface. You can use Zotero in the web-based version, for example, this is our group because I have decided to create a group at Zotero instead of using Mende, because it is an open group and you can add as many references as you can. What do you mean? Yeah, you can, you can join the group. Then, this that you can see here is a version, a Zotero version that I have installed with Firefox, okay? Because you can download Zotero as such, Zotero, and that's all, as an application, and you can install Zotero as an application. And then you can use Firefox as a complement for Firefox, and this is a Firefox complement. Because you can see here the source that you have to import, and here all the database. Obviously, this is empty because I haven't added many things yet, but I am trying to incorporate some things, and you can do it as well, okay? This that you can see here are different ways. So, here you can import a whole file coming from Firefox or EndNote, for example, and you can import from copy and paste, okay? Then you have more options here. Then you have lots of tutorials that I have put them as well in the virtual course, and I would recommend to have a look at some of the videos seen there so that you can have a very quick idea of how to begin and start with Zotero. Okay? You can have your own library here, and then you can create as many groups as you need. This means that if you have finished with the volume of data that you have with this open source application, you could buy more. But I don't know where is the limit. I think it is more than enough to work. You can search all the groups, and you can be added to other open groups, okay? And you can interact because you have a problem for each group, I think.
